Since it was Munday, I decided to do a small art reference project for myself. And then I decided to make it public with the following notes.

From Left to Right, Top to Bottom:

What NOT to do (front):

  • Don’t chicken wing your arms! Although it might be easier to hold the rifle, you will make yourself a bigger target.
  • Don’t close your one eye! You will lose your depth perception, which is crucial when you are on the move, or are trying to determine how far away your target is
  • Don’t keep your legs haphazardly strewn about. You need to make sure you’re balanced!

What to do (front)

  • Keep both eyes open
  • Bend your elbows downwards and towards the ground to make yourself a smaller target
  • Bend your knees to control the gun’s recoil + be ready to move.

What NOT to do (side)

  • Don’t put the stock above your shoulder
  • Don’t lean back.
  • Both of the above reduce your control over the weapon and may result in a black eye, and the rifle flying backwards and out of your hands.

What to do (side)

  • Bury the stock of the rifle into the meaty part of your shoulder
  • Lean into the gun to keep the gun under control when the recoil of the gun kicks the gun upwards or to the side
  • Bend your knees slightly to lean forward, as well as make yourself a smaller target

Patrol/Relaxed Stance

  • The soldier is relaxed and is most likely moving around.
  • His eyes are searching for possible threats
  • His hands are still on the rifle, even if he has a sling on

Low Ready Stance

  • Possible threat has been detected
  • Entire body shifts towards threat direction
  • Stock is shouldered
  • Eyes are focused on the possible target
  • Gun barrel is pointed in the target’s general direction, but not directly at the target.

Firing Stance

  • Immediate response
  • Soldier fires off shots while screaming to the other people in his team
  • "CONTACT!" or "THREAT!"

YOU ARE A SAINT

Brilliant little reference here *reblogs for his art friends*

Badass Ladies of Chinese History: Wu Zetian

Welcome back to another edition of “Badass Ladies of Chinese History.” What can we say about Chinese ladies? Well, basically they are are badass–some of the them at least. Every Friday, we will be shedding some light on the “half the sky” that history frequently keeps in the dark.
This week, it’s Wu Zetian (武则天), China’s only female emperor. Wu takes “badass” to a whole new level. Not only did she single-handedly rule the Middle Kingdom for nearly half a century, but she founded her own dynasty. She was a master politician and didn’t shy away from violence in her personal life, all while maintaining peace and prosperity on a national level.

…Great, now I want a political intrigue game, a la Long Live The Queen but longer, more in depth and brutal, with a double sided campaign featuring Wu Zeitan and Agrippina the Younger….

DIY 10 Knit Classic Sweaters from Diary of a Creative Fanatic. All these curated patterns are free. 6 easy to follow video tutorials are at the bottom of the post for beginners. I really like this site because the roundups of patterns are so carefully picked and the patterns are ones that I would actually want to spend time knitting.

HOLY WHAT

MY MIND HAS BEEN BLOWN

THAT NEVER HAPPENS WITH HARRY POTTER

ESPECIALLY NOT WITH MINERVA MCGONAGALL

OMFG MY WHOLE LIFE IS WHAT

WHAT WHAT WHAT

Oh my god, she was GORGEOUS.

WAIT WHAT WHAT’S GOING ON

If y’all ever thought Minerva was anything short of stunning when she was young, you have been fooled. This witch was a heart breaker, and could spell circles around anyone. Brains and beauty with that lovely lady.

But it isn’t a magic portrait because that would be a little bit weird to have her argue with her past self.

Clearly Professor McGonagall was the Hermionie Granger of her own generation…

Well the Hermionie Granger after that one tooth curse incident that she exploited to bypass braces

This honestly made me tear up. Imagining how great he must have felt that his planned worked and choosing that risk paid off.
I also feel like him and the model have such good chemistry, they’re always so kind and loving to one another.

Holy shit what did he do?? That’s rad as hell!

Since the runway was going to have simulated rain, he wanted to make the outfit become colorful because of it rather than deflect it. He sewed dye into the seams and once the rain hit it the dye ran! Very simple but super effective. He was one of the two winners of that challenge.

Absolutely brilliant. Holy shit.

Bee Hotels for Solitary Bees

You may be wondering what bees need a hotel for, when they make their own hives. The truth is that many species of bees are solitary – the do not live in hives but instead construct their own nest. The main reason for this is because in these species every female is fertile and this would not make for comfortable communal living in a hive.

Eeeeee! That is the cutest bee face I have ever seen poking out there like “you rang?”

More like, “You buzzed?”

Can’t stop, won’t stop: Protesters in Ferguson rally again, seeking justice for Mike Brown. More than a month and a half after his death, his killer, Darren Wilson, is still a free man. (Pt 2)

Because it wouldn’t be a protest in Ferguson without fuckery from the police. A driver plowed his car through protesters, grazing several and running over a young boys foot. Beyond taking several hours to transport the boy to the hospital, they took even longer to arrest the motorist. Who did they not wait long to arrest? Two of the protesters who had been documenting the altercation for the world to see. If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention. #staywoke #farfromover #nojusticenopeace

Neuroscience could alter feeling disappointed
Finding an antidote for feeling let-down may now be possible. Researchers at UC San Diego have identified a control mechanism for an area of the brain that processes sensory and emotive information that humans experience as feeling depressed.
“The idea that some people see the world as a glass half empty has a chemical basis in the brain,” said senior author Roberto Malinow. “What we have found is a process that may dampen the brain’s sensitivity to negative life events.”
Because people struggling with depression are believed to register negative experiences more strongly than others, the study’s findings have implications for understanding not just why some people have a brain chemistry that predisposes them to depression but also how to treat it.
